What the Government’s Missing Billions Could Have Done for Albertans
According to the Royalty Review Panel and the Auditor General, the government has lost billions of dollars - as an absolute minimum, at least $114,000 per hour for every hour of every day for the last seven years - because of inadequate government oversight of the royalty regime. It could be the most expensive case of mismanagement in Canadian history.

On May 14, 2007, Hugh MacDonald, Shadow Minister for Energy, presented the Alberta Liberal Caucus position on non-renewable resource revenue royalties to the Royalty Review Panel. Hugh argued that Albertans are not getting their fair share of oil and gas revenues, and that royalties must be raised.
